The Process: Four Colors, Infinite Possibilities
My creative process is defined by deliberate intention and a deep focus on harmony. Every single painting I create is mixed entirely from just four base colors:
• Red
• Blue
• Yellow
• White
Using high-quality acrylics, I compose every single shade, hue, and tone by hand. This patient, intentional method ensures that every color on the canvas is entirely unique and created with absolute purpose.
Navigating the Canvas
Every painting is a journey of balance—a dance between uninhibited freedom and meticulous precision. As a perfectionist, I find liberation in the canvas, allowing myself to create instinctually while reserving the space to craft exact, deliberate details where the painting demands them.
Here is how each piece comes to life:
- A Blueprint from Four Colors
- The Limited Palette: I work exclusively with a four-color palette: red, blue, yellow, and white. Every shade, mood, and temperature on the canvas is mixed by hand from these foundational elements, creating a natural color harmony throughout the work.
- The Initial Sketch: I map out the composition with a loose, fluid sketch, establishing the core structure of the piece before the heavy texture begins.
- Building Structure and Layered Depth
- Paintbrush and Palette Knife: I don’t just apply color; I give it shape. Moving between expressive brushwork and deliberate palette knife strokes, I build an elegant, subtle dimension directly onto the surface.
- The History of Layers: My paintings are defined by many successive applications of paint. Each new layer interacts with the one beneath it, creating rich visual depth and a soft, tactile history you can feel.
- The Balance of Freedom and Detail
- Intuitive Freedom: In the early and middle stages, I embrace the freedom of the medium, letting the paint guide the movement and emotion of the piece.
- Perfection in the Details: As the painting nears completion, my focus shifts to exact detail. I spend hours refining lines, sharpening edges, and placing precise highlights exactly where they need to be.
- Elements of Light: Metallic Leaf
- Luminous Accents: To elevate the composition, I often incorporate delicate metallic leafing into the final layers.
- Dynamic Dimension: This adds a brilliant material dimension to the work. The metallic elements catch and throw the ambient light, causing the painting to shift and change depending on your angle and the time of day.
- 5. The Finishing Touches
- Curing the Canvas: Once the final detail is placed, the painting is left to cure completely in the studio, ensuring the heavy textures and delicate metallic leaf are perfectly set.
- Signature and Final Review: I sign the piece in the corner, marking it complete and readying the canvas to move from my studio space into its permanent home.
Bringing the Studio to You
Every layer tells a story of time, patience, and a relentless pursuit of balance. Through a deliberate build-up of material, I transform the flat surface into an immersive landscape of rich depth and tactile texture.
